The boys are catching up

I had another baby dream last night, and this time it was a boy. Actually, I was attending the Final Four, and then all of a sudden some random woman was helping me give the baby a bath. Dreams can sure be weird sometimes.

And I don't know if this one counts, but last week I had a dream that I was still pregnant, but we already had a 2 or 3 year old son. Hmm.

Inside and outside views

We had another sonogram and check up today, so we got to see Teeny Weeny again for probably the last time before it's born. He/she looks like they've grown a lot, and it was really active again. We could see the lips moving and it was playing with its toes. Everything looked really good again. There was still no temptation to find out the gender, but the sonogram tech said she couldn't tell again, so the baby is honoring our wishes of not wanting to find out. Hopefully this is a sign that it will be an accomodating child! :)

My weight gain is at 15 pounds so far, but I still weigh less than Dave :) But with all the growing that I'm doing, and the working out that he's doing, I'm sure that won't last long! I'm at 26 weeks, and now we'll start going every 2 weeks for check ups.

Patient puppy

Every morning I get the doggies out for a walk, usually one of the first things we do after I have my breakfast. But lately I've been moving a lot slower in the mornings and tend to not get out of my PJs until about 10:00 (OK, today it's 10:45 and I'm still in them). The dogs are usually pretty patient, but they'll follow me all over the house to make sure I don't forget. This morning I was sitting at the computer and Bella just sat down next to me and stared at me as if she were trying to send me brain waves that it's time to go for a walk. Well I guess it wouldn't hurt for me to be dressed by 11:00 and get them out for their walk. I think they miss their daddy, because he never waits this long to take them on their morning walk. Only a few more days, puppies.

Thoughts from the road

I am currently on an 11 day road trip with the Mavericks. We have already been to Detroit, New York and Cleveland. Tonight we are in Boston and tomorrow after the game we will travel to Atlanta. It's the longest trip of the season and the most consecutive road games (6) not interupted by an All-Star Break for the Mavs since 2000. It's been a pretty special season with the team having the most successful year in team history and one of the unbelieveable runs of any professional sports team (after losing their first four games they've won 56 of the last 63).
We have a good group that we travel with. The total number on the team charter is around 40 with players, coaches, support staff and broadcasters. As usual it's a pretty long season with an 82-game schedule (70 which we will broadcast). Combined with playoffs and ESPN college basketball, I will end up working over 90 basketball games since late October. I can't wait for May when I get to reacquaint myself with my wife.
Summers are pretty nice especially this one with a baby on the way. Everyday brings more and more excitement. Gretchen is really starting to show and is absolutely beautiful. I'm glad that she hasn't had any problems other than a couple days of discomfort. We're starting to prepare the house for the baby, painting rooms and moving our office. Late June/early July will be here before we know it. I can't wait!

Visit from parents

We enjoyed having my parents in town last week. We had quite a busy week. On Wednesday we did some shopping and then Dad and I got to go to the Mavs/Suns game. Thursday we had Dave's parents over for lunch and then went to the Body Worlds exhibit followed by dinner at Fireside Pies (pizza has been one of my cravings). Friday I put them to work, though, swapping the guest room and office and washing windows. Saturday was a few errands and dinner at Rodger and Janice's. And, of course, lots of college basketball, on top of the three movies we watched: The Departed, Flags of our Fathers, and Babel. Mom is coming down again with my sister in May, but I probably won't see Dad again until after the baby is born. Strange to think of it that way.

24 1/2 weeks

I think my belly looks kind of pointy versus round! But it sure is growing.

Baby's bedding

I had intended to make the bedding for the nursery. But after quite a few trips to the fabric stores, I had not found anything that I was in love with. So we came across this set online and decided to place the order. Sure a lot easier than making them, and we're both really happy with it. My parents were here last week (photos from that in a bit), and they helped us switch some rooms around, so now we can officially start working on the nursery.

Baby dreams update

So the dream tally now moves to girl: 3; boy: 1

Last night I had another baby dream, my first in quite a while. This one felt the most real of all of them. I dreamed that I went into labor very early this morning and delivered the baby. Once again I was passed out during the whole labor and didn't remember a thing about it other than it lasted only 30 minutes. It was a perfectly healthy little girl and we named her our girl name. We got to take her home almost immediately, so we were busy calling everyone and meeting up with people to introduce them to her. We brought her home and she was so sweet; I swaddled her up and set her in her crib to sleep.

I know we're keeping all of you in suspence by not sharing the names we have picked out, but you'll get a kick out of knowing that we went to the dog park yesterday and heard both of our names being used as dogs' names! I heard our girl name twice and our boy name once. :) I guess that's what we get for wanting to name our kid Spot.

Monthly check up

We had our regular check up with our doctor yesterday and everything remains A-OK. For those of you into numbers, my weight gain is just a bit over 10 lbs (7 of which were all in the last month!) and I got my first tummy measurement which was 22-23 cm. We got to hear the heartbeat again, which is always so special. Next appointment is at the end of the month for a normal checkup and another ultrasound.

So far we're still very content not knowing the gender. Some friends who just had a baby and didn't know the gender have told us that it was so worth the wait. I still don't really have any instinct as to what it is, but I've realized I'm slightly leaning toward wanting a girl, but I think for no other reason than I just really like our name for a girl. :)

I'm feeling the baby a lot now, and Dave has been able to feel a few kicks. But what I actually like best is when I can just feel its body from the outside. I woke up in the middle of the night last night and could feel it sticking practically straight out of the middle of my belly. Dave had briefly woken up at the same time, so he was able to feel it, too. I think it's so special to feel its body that way because its as close as we can get to holding it at this point.

I've been getting more and more excited now that we've passed the half-way point. In fact Teeny Weeny Keeney is due 4 months from today.
