Happy Anniversary Hubby

Today is the anniversary of the day Dave and I met (for the second time). It was 2001 and I was in my last semester at TCU working in Athletics Media Relations. I worked at all the basketball games, and this day I was assigned to work for the TV broadcast as the timeout coordinator. As the TOC I was responsible for starting the games on time and letting the refs know when TV was going to commercial. (We'll just say I wasn't a good TOC, because in my two attempts I started one game early and one game late! Can't believe he married me anyway.) Dave was the producer that game, so we talked on headset throughout the game. We didn't meet in person until after the game. I remember thinking that I liked how this guy conducted himself. He wasn't a screamer as a lot of people in TV (especially producers) can be. He says that when I came back to the truck after the game he thought I was pretty cute. He was producing a game at TCU two days later, so he decided to ask me out if I was there again, which I was. So two days later I was his TOC again, and I remember before the game that he was chatting with me quite a bit, and then I finally realized he was hitting on me. :) After the game I ran into him in the hallway, and he asked if he could ask me a question. I thought he was going to ask me where the media relations director was or where he could find the bathroom, but he asked for my number.

Our first date was a few days later at the Flying Saucer in Fort Worth, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Oh, and that comment about meeting for the second time: We realized a little while after we met that we had actually worked together at a basketball game at TCU before. I think it was in 1999. I did stats for him at a women's game on a Super Bowl Sunday. He was sporting a rockin' platinum blond hair color back then. I'm really glad that went out of style before we met again.

4th photo tag

Lynette tagged me to do a 4th photo post. I always think this one is neat because it sends you on a random trip down memory lane. You are to open the fourth folder in your photo file and choose the 4th photo. Here's mine:

It's my nephew Calvin and brother-in-law Doug at a park near our old house in Carrollton, November 2006. It's the weekend my whole family came down for the weekend so Sue, Dave and I could run the half marathon. It was a really fun weekend which also lead to some other pretty memorable photos.

Now I tag Sue & Doug, Ashley, Leslie and Sara. Can't wait to see what you come up with!

Blanket from Great Grandma

Mom and I ventured out today for lunch and shopping with the boys. It's a gorgeous day, so it was nice to get out. The boys did really well and let us enjoy our shopping. It was a good chance for us to break in "the bus," as I have nicknamed our double stroller.

A little anecdote from yesterday: we watched the inauguration coverage all day yesterday, and before we knew it, Charlie was starting to recognize Obama on TV and would say his name. Except that it comes out as "ma-ma." Even when the TV was off, he pointed to it and said "ma-ma." Close enough. :)

Here are the boys on a blanket my Grandma made for Nathan. We also had to get a picture of them in their Mavs gear since Daddy is gone all week with the team. Can't wait for him to come home on Saturday! Charlie just started reading the Mavs media guide. He likes to look through it before naps and bed. He especially likes it when we find Daddy's picture in it.

Finally...an update

I'm finally getting around to blogging again. No surprise, it's been a busy week. But I think we're successfully adjusting to our new little one. I'm finally starting to feel somewhat back to normal after a bout of mastitis. Dave has been Superman around here keeping everything afloat. And Charlie seems overall well adjusted, but of course has his moments.

The other day, he and I were playing with his cars in the play room when all of a sudden he walked off with his cars. Turns out he was bringing them in the family room to give to Nathan. My sweet boy is already sharing. :)

More pictures

We came home from the hospital yesterday and somehow managed to survive last night. Nathan woke up pretty much every hour and half, so that made for a long night for Momma. He's nursing well, but only eats for a few minutes before falling dead asleep again.

Charlie spent most of yesterday with Granny and Grandaddy (THANK YOU), and they brought him back this morning. He's been pretty cranky, but we're hoping that is short lived.

Otherwise, we're hanging in there. In so many ways it feels like deja vu, but at the same time I feel like a rookie again, too.

Nathan

Here are a few more pictures from yesterday. Charlie got to meet Nathan pretty soon after he was born. He seemed a little overwhelmed and clung to Dave at first, but there were still a lot of people in the room, so I don't think he had any idea what was going on. He saw Nathan and said "bay-bee." He showed interest in Nathan, but actually seemed most interested in my IV. I'm anxious to see how he does when we bring Nathan home.

So here's how it all went down. I got up with Charlie about 6:15 yesterday morning and had breakfast like normal. About 7:30 I told Mom and Dave that I wanted to go back to bed, so I did. I woke up about 8:45 with wet pants, so at first I thought my water broke, but I actually was bleeding again. So we called my doctor and headed to the hospital. I felt a few contractions, but not all that much more than I've been feeling for weeks. Once at the hospital we could tell the baby was OK, and I was at 5 cm, so we proceeded with labor. I got a little pitocin at 11:00 to move things along, and then the waiting began. We didn't have to wait too long, though. I got my epidural at 12:45, rested for about a hour, then I could tell things were really starting to move. So we started preparing to push, and started pushing about 2:45. Then Nathan entered our lives at 3:08. Twenty minutes of pushing is definitely better than the 2 1/2 hours I pushed with Charlie!

No news

No baby yet, and I'm getting more and more impatient everyday. I try to keep perspective that I have no control over it, and God's timing is best. But I think it's been a lot harder to wait this time because ever since the abruption, I've had the feeling that it could come any day. So after four weeks of thinking "any day," I'm bound to get impatient. That, and I'm getting pretty uncomfortable. A few months ago I started feeling really good about Jan. 4, but obviously that date came and went, and still no baby. I'm trying to cherish these last few days of having just Charlie. I'm pretty freaked out about having two kids, but I'm also just so excited to meet Peachy and dive in to what our crazy new life will be.

Any day...

Belly Photos

Here are the latest belly photos taken last night (38 1/2 weeks). Don't know if I could get much bigger. My weight gain is pretty much right on track with how much I gained with Charlie.
